The 2009 offering of Napa Valley Cabernet from Macauley is as smooth and polished as I’ve ever made before. In the nose the presence of soft barrel vanillin, warm black cherry and a little spice box. Once in your mouth, this wine is a swirling roller coaster ride of milk chocolate and caramel with a little dash of espresso supported by layers of generous black fruit riding on the rails of youthful tannin and moderate acidity. As the wine opens up over time more red fruit fumes rise from the glass and the young texture improves. The overall nature of this wine is very polished and approachable and will certainly give its owner pleasure for a decade or longer to come.
